Bath Iron works is seeking a full-time Labor Attorney to join our Labor Relations department.
• The Labor Attorney will report to the Director of Labor Relations.
• Represent the organization as an advocate in its commitment to consistent and fair labor and employment practices.
• Develop, implement and maintain Collective Bargaining Agreements, MOAs and Settlements.
• Investigate and support investigations conducted by other departments regarding CBA violations, discipline and other allegations.
• Identify proactive opportunities for increasing awareness, knowledge, and education of management regarding the correct application of collectively bargained language.
• Advise the Company of regulatory and industry trends.
• Coordinate with the Legal Department to ensure CBA compliance.
• Stay current on Arbitration and Settlement trends within the applicable internationals and beyond.
• Perform ongoing legal research on a variety of labor and employment law issues.
• Prepare and conduct Unemployment Hearings at the Appeal and Commission levels.
• Prepare Arbitration Cases for presentation and interact with outside counsel.
• Hear and respond to grievances.
• Provide support as needed throughout HR organization on issues related to employment, labor and employment law.
Bath Iron Works is seeking an Engineer II/III to join our Safety & Health department. In this role you will be responsible for assisting with the administration and management of occupational health and safety programs within the Safety Engineering discipline in a very dynamic, fast paced shipyard industry.
Duties include but not limited to :
- Identifying workplace hazards and feasible means of abatement;
- Providing direction and technical support on compliance with OSHA standards and company procedures
- Assisting with establishing and maintaining safety and health programs and management systems
- Reviewing the effectiveness of compliance programs
- Assisting management and supervision with the recognition and abatement of hazards
- Participating in regular scheduled workplace inspections
- Developing fall protection plans
- Conducting root cause accident and incident investigations and developing subsequent corrective actions
- Providing training as necessary
Openings on 1st and 2nd shifts.
This candidate will have ownership of BIW's electrical infrastructure at multiple facilities and provide technical support to projects and maintenance activities that ensure its reliability for both current and future needs. These responsibilities will include day to day technical support for activities within the electrical trades, providing for design and installation within applicable codes and standards. The successful applicant will also be experienced in machinery and terms of VFDs, PLCs and other controlling functions. This work will all be coordinated within the Facilities Division to ensure daily and long-term projects are carried out.
- Diagnose, treat and medically manage work-related injuries and illnesses for Bath Iron Works employees.
- Collaborate with on-site medical, nursing and workers' compensation personnel, management and outside providers concerning work-related injury case management, return to work and fitness for duty concerns.
- Perform routine medical surveillance physical examination and case review for a variety of programs, i.e., exposures from asbestos, heavy metals, various environmental toxins and noise; DOT; fire brigade and other programs.
- Supervise the BIW clinical staff.
- Works within current nurse practice act of the State of Maine.
- Minimal on-call required.
- No holidays or weekends.
- 4x10 weekday work schedule.
- Responsible for all aspects of Provisioning Technical Documentation as required by individual shipbuilding contracts.
- Review vendor equipment drawings to determine & identify maintenance significant repair parts.
- Prepare & submit Allowance Parts Lists through the Navy’s ICAPS Client server for CDRL submittal to the Navy’s approval authority.
- Maintain accurate and complete records of work prepared and daily status.
- Daily interaction with other functional areas in Integrated Logistic Support, Engineering, Procurement, Navy customer, and periodic Vendor support.
- Naval Architectural work associated with designing, building, documenting, and supporting Naval Ships including:
- Design maintenance and upgrade tasks for ships under construction or in service
- Documentation of “as-built” ships
- Calculations to support new construction processes such as launching, dry dockings, sea trials, pier-side trim and stability monitoring, mooring arrangements, and inclining
- Prepare and submit Tonnage Applications to the US Coast Guard
- Engineering analyses to determine and develop ship geometry, arrangements, weight, centers of gravity, loads, tank properties, cargo and payload stowage, docking parameters, and ship intact and damaged stability characteristics.
- Provide Naval Architecture support for BIW’s Planning Yard contracts, including:
- Updating Selected Record Drawings (Docking and Sounding Tables, Ship Information Books and Principal Characteristics)
- Inclining Experiments
- Special Projects and Studies
- Updating Weight & Stability documentation
- Respond to questions / provide guidance to the Fleet, Homeports and NAVSEA
- Utilize Hydrostatic, Hydrodynamic, FEA, and “in-house” software to perform analyses.
- Write reports and correspondence.
- Participate in or lead technical interchanges on issues with customers such as U. S. Navy (NAVSEA and Supervisor of Shipbuilding), USCG, or others.
- Travel to US Navy Homeports 2-4 times per year for a week – 10 days per trip.
