Job Description

The successful candidate will supervise a group consisting of salaried logistics analysts in the Configuration Data Management (CDM) team. The group currently manages over 16 million configuration and logistics records in support of 77 Navy surface combatants with additional ships scheduled for future delivery. The CDM team is divided into groups based on products and contracts. The groups are collectively responsible for Configuration Status Accounting, site validation for new construction ships, Class Functional Configuration Baseline Index, CDM maintenance for in-service ships, and Configuration Overhaul Planning for in-service ships.

This position is part of the Life Cycle Engineering and Support organization and reports to the Manager of Integrated Logistics Support and Op Cycle Management.  

 

Key Responsibilities
 
Safety Leadership:

  • Promotes a culture of proactive safety awareness and accountability across the team.
  • Ensures safe workplace conditions and compliance with company safety standards.
  • Maintains regular communications with staff as it relates to ergonomic and Shipyard safety.

 Program Execution:

  • The BIW CDM group is tasked with evaluating, developing, and maintaining configuration and logistics data for assigned ships and/or ship system(s) and planning the modernization activities for ships before the availabilities.
  • The Supervisor will be expected to make strategic decisions to effectively plan and manage all of the team’s contract scope as well as performing all supervisory roles for the group.  The resulting products must conform to well-established Navy policy and industry process requirements to ensure the US Navy sailor receives the necessary support to complete their mission.
  • The Navy digital transformation approach requires the successful candidate to continue guiding the CDM analyst team through a major system and process change while providing ongoing fleet support.

 Operational Management:

  • Develops employee performance evaluations.
  • Supports development of personnel, staffing plans, and critical skill maintenance.
  • Provides leadership and direction to the team, supporting day-to-day operations, and long-term planning.
  • Holds daily, productive musters, utilizing the BOS to elevate any issues through the tiered muster system.

Continuous Improvement:

  • Champions BOS principles and productivity enhancements across the CAD Dev team.
  • Leverages A3 root cause analysis and associated corrective action plans for identified design issues.

Required/Preferred Education/Training

Required:

  • High School Diploma or GED

Preferred:

  • BIW Apprentice or former US Navy 3MC/Storekeeper
  • Experience working as a Configuration Data Management Analyst strongly preferred

Required/Preferred Experience

  • Must possess a deep understanding of configuration data management and equipment/system layout of surface combatants.
  • Proficient in use of personal computers and associated software required; Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability to motivate and inspire a highly technical team of logistic analysts.
  • Ability to forecast, plan, and manage work efforts relative to Planning Yard contract scope.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and assignments.
  • Ability to work independently to develop and implement solutions to highly technical issues.
  • Positive relationship and reputation with the U.S. Navy customer.
  • Must have the ability to instill a culture of providing error free products in a timely manner.
  • Shipbuilding/shipboard or related experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Earned Value Management System (EVMS).
  • Familiarity with Navy Technical documentation and terms a plus.
  • Ability to read, understand, and interpret blueprints/drawings.
