Job Description

This is a year-round position located in San Diego, CA.

 

Operating under the BIW Business Operating System (BOS), the Supervisor, Engineering ensures compliance with safety, quality, and performance standards while coordinating with other key stakeholders to meet overall milestones.

 

Typical responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide leadership and supervision to assigned DDG51 design personnel that support availabilities, ship checks, design development, and problem resolution.
  • Develop work scopes, work estimates, manning requirements, and schedules for all design effort assigned to the San Diego homeport office.
  • Assist with design changes for various Shipalts.
  • Provide shipboard (on the deck plates) supervision to the visiting shipcheck teams.
  • Work with the Navy, ship's force, and local HPR's to coordinate shipchecks performed in San Diego, Everett, Pearl Harbor, and Yokosuka.
  • Work with Project Coordinators for all shipchecks assigned to West Coast.
  • Coordinate with the local Homeport Representative's when special services are required for ship checks.
  • Assist in managing design products and processes to ensure that quality, schedule, and cost performance goals are achieved.
  • Participate in PY design status meetings, BOS compliance, and similar tasking.
  • Attend production/progress meeting with assigned team as necessary.
  • Perform supervisory and administrative duties including resource management, employee development, safety, performance evaluations, progressing work, hiring, honoring labor contracts, and WFM requirements.
  • Salary Range - $104,000 to $130,000.

Required/Preferred Education/Training

  • BS Degree OR BIW Graduate Apprentice OR 3-5 years of shipbuilding, marine design, and/or engineering experience required.

Required/Preferred Experience

  • Must enjoy a dynamic, high churn, rapid response environment with an ability to coordinate and prioritize multiple competing assignments.
  • Proven team player with demonstrated organizational and people skills with an ability to lead, motivate and inspire the team.
  • Previous leadership experience required, minimum of 3-5 years.
  • Knowledge of DDG-51 Class design, processes, and procedures preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of design scheduling, budgeting, and progressing processes, including earned value management system (EVMS).
  • Experience with design development using AutoCAD and multiple design disciplines.
  • Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of Navy standard items preferred.
  • This position requires US Navy shipboard visits that require Personal Protective Equipment (hardhat, safety glasses, safety shoes, ear plugs, etc.).
