Job Description

The PMO Office is looking for a strong candidate to support the DDG51 Planning Yard. The overarching objective of this position is to ensure the program meets or exceeds its performance goals in the areas of Technical Quality, Schedule, Cost & Management.

 

The successful candidate will support the DDG 51 Planning Yard Operations & Material Manager in the following areas of responsibility:

  • Develop detailed project plans for funded fabricated work and work directly with all stakeholders to ensure scope is properly communicated and schedule is maintained.
  • Identify potential project risks, impacts to milestone deliverables, and develop plans to mitigate with assistance from management.
  • Drive rapid resolution to address material related issues and put action plans into place to eliminate recurrence. Repeating issues from ship to ship should not occur.
  • Work with various BIW fabrication shops to identify design, engineering, and material shortage issues with fabricated material requirements and work with the appropriate POC’s to correct.
  • Establish and maintain strong working relationships with Program Controls, Estimating, Design & Engineering, Planning, Supply Chain, Fabrication Planning, Fabrication Facilities & Warehousing.
  • Ensure funded fabricated material is executed in accordance with program milestones and schedules.
  • Ensure that our performance in all areas of Program Award Fee categories is being monitored to identify and mitigate any issues that could impact our goal to achieve scores in the Excellent category. 
  • Develop relationships with the Waterfront and SSBA customers to ensure we understand all issues and concerns relating to the Planning Yard’s area of responsibilities.
  • Build relationships with each of the homeports, understanding material issues and how best the planning yard can support.

Required/Preferred Education/Training

  • Associate's degree in a technical or business discipline preferred.
  • 5 years of experience with Surface Combatants in the area of ship design, construction, repair, or alteration required.

Required/Preferred Experience

  • Working knowledge of Project Management Skills required.
  • Demonstrated expertise and effectiveness with Microsoft Office, especially Excel, Access, and Word.
  • Demonstrated proactive leader. Evidence of being able to anticipate problems and take steps to resolve or avoid them.  Ability to anticipate the next several steps of problem resolution.
  • Successful experience in implementing and monitoring continuous improvement initiatives to improve safety, improve quality, reduce cycle time, and reduce costs.
  • Must be able to effectively manage priorities and meet schedule demands.
  • Willing to commit necessary hours to complete responsibilities on schedule (including working past normal shift schedule and some weekends when necessary).
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work multiple priorities.
  • Highly motivated, strong attention to detail and the proven ability to take the initiative when required.
  • You must be capable of preparing and delivering occasional presentations and reports.

Ability to obtain a Security Clearance
