The Manager, IT Networks is a leadership role responsible for overseeing BIW’s team of Network and Telecom engineers. This is an onsite position at the BIW shipyard in Bath, Maine. Operating under the BIW Business Operating System (BOS), this position ensures the efficient operation of BIW’s network infrastructure while meeting the established security requirements of a major US defense contractor. Maintaining a stable, secure network infrastructure is foundational to BIW’s ability to deliver high quality ships to the US Navy. This role reports directly to the Chief Information Security Officer.
Key Responsibilities
Safety Leadership:
- Champion and enforce BIW safety policies and procedures.
- Promote a culture of proactive safety awareness and accountability across the team.
- Ensure safe workplace conditions and compliance with government and company safety standards.
Program Execution:
- Manage the IT Network Plan of the Week (POW) process to ensure schedule fidelity and responsiveness to operational needs.
- Implement corrective actions to address deficiencies and ensure contract deliverables are met.
Operational Management:
- Manage all aspects of BIW IT Network and Telecom operations, including workforce performance, on-call scheduling and resource utilization in accordance with BIW Standard Operating Procedures.
- Manage network vendor relations.
- Ensure all network equipment and software is supported by the vendor and that maintenance contracts are current.
- Monitor and report on key performance indicators related to Safety, Cost, Quality, Schedule, and People.
- Collaborate with executive management and department leaders to assess near- and long-term network capacity and security needs.
Team Collaboration and Communication:
- Provide leadership and direction to IT Network team, supporting day-to-day operations and long-term planning.
- Conduct daily tier 1 muster meetings with Network staff.
- Support development of personnel, staffing plans, and critical skill maintenance.
- Foster collaboration with other IT team members.
- Promote a culture of professional, responsive customer service.
Continuous Improvement:
- Champion BOS principles and productivity enhancements across operations.
- Identify and eliminate non-value-added activities and lead implementation of process improvements.
- Leverage root cause corrective action problem-solving and other structured improvement tools.
