Job Description

This Engineering Technician position will work within the BIW Planning Yard’s Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) organization as a contributing member of the Reliability & Maintainability (R&M) team. This technician will develop and employ skills necessary to implement effective Data Collection, Analysis, and Corrective Action (DCACA) requirements in support of DDG51 Shipbuilding Program.
 
The basic core job functions include, but are not limited to:

  • Support DCACA programs for DDG51 new construction and post-delivery efforts. Perform engineering efforts to identify hull, mechanical, & electrical (HM&E) equipment failures via all available sources including JIRA projects. Document failures, dsupport root-cause determinations, and seek effective solutions to prevent future failure recurrence.
  • Gather equipment specification data and equipment failure data while BIW Ships are under warranty. Organize, interpret and present failure data for technical inquiries or assessments related to equipment warranty concerns.
  • Interface with BIW Buyers and equipment vendors to achieve R&M requirements identified in HM&E equipment Purchase Specifications and DDG51 Class Ship Specification 076 (R&M).
  • Review vendor furnished information including Failure Analysis Reports (SDRL R8 and R9) and resolve issues using NIIIP-SPARS application.
  • Create and submit Contractor Data Requirements List (CDRL) monthly A056 and quarterly A057 basis. Resolve Navy comments against those CDRLs. Facilitate changes in DDG51 DCACA requirements including XFRACAS implementation for DDG140AF ships.
  • Interface productively with various BIW departments, including BIW Subcontracts Management (Procurement), Functional Engineering, Materials Handling, Manufacturing Trades, Quality Assurance, and Fleet Service Engineering to document equipment/system failure investigations and root cause determinations.
  • Update internal DCACA procedures and work instructions to facilitate repeatability and promote continuous process improvement. Train others to do the same; build team DCACA capability.

Required/Preferred Education/Training

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Reliability Engineering education and/or training highly preferred.

Required/Preferred Experience

  • Technician II - 1-4 years' experience required.
  • Technician III - 5-9 years' experience required.
  • Knowledge of shipboard equipment/systems and configuration preferred.
  • Experience and detailed knowledge of MS Access required.
  • Strong research skills and attention to detail required.
  • Ability to plan, track, and organize multiple projects required.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills required.
  • Knowledge of BIW JIRA (MAR, BPT & GFMPR) and JIRA Query Language highly preferred.
  • Data analysis, management and data-analytics experience highly preferred.
  • Experience with XFRACAS preferred.
  • Current Secret Clearance with U.S. Government preferred, Ability to obtain a DoD SECRET clearance is required.
