Job Description

The Planning Yard organization is looking for a strong leader to manage and execute the DDG 1000 Planning Yard (PY) contract.  The overarching objective of this position is to ensure the DDG1000 Planning Yard Program meets or exceeds performance goals in the areas of Technical Quality, Schedule, Cost & Management.  This will require daily coordination with individuals from the Program Office, Program Controls, Estimating, Design & Engineering, Planning, Supply Chain, Fabrication Planning, Fabrication Facilities & Warehousing.  There will also be extensive interactions with our Navy customers at SupShip Bath, PMS-421. 
 
This position reports to the Planning Yard Portfolio Manager, and will be required to accomplish the following;

  • Complete deliverables developed from Strategic Plan to retain PY contracts upon next renewal.
  • Support development of and execution of the DDG1000PY Operational Performance Improvement Plan (OPIP).
  • Undertake growth opportunities.
  • Manage and resolve contract challenges.
  • Ensure compliance with all requirements of the contract and implement corrective actions for any deficiencies.
  • Identify funding needs to execute requirements.
  • Support and guide DDG1000PY Program Office team on daily operations including achievement of Plan of the Week (POW).
  • Responsible for achieving Safety, Cost, Quality, Schedule and People goals.
  • Development of accurate annual Operational Business Plans and subsequent Quarterly Business Reviews and Manning Lockdown Plans.
  • Create and maintain positive customer relations.
  • Actively build and foster strategic Government points of contact.
  • Establish and maintain business relationships with homeport shipyards, subcontractors and support providers.
  • Able to strategically and professionally deliver messages and presentations to all levels within the company and Navy.
  • This position requires frequent travel with durations that could last 1 week to support Program Reviews, Vendor visits, Homeport visits and other miscellaneous meetings.

Required/Preferred Education/Training

  • Associate's degree in a technical or business discipline and/or equivalent work experience, or a BIW Apprentice graduate; however, an undergraduate degree in Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture, Electrical Engineering or a similar discipline is preferred.

Required/Preferred Experience

  • Minimum of 15 years of shipbuilding/technical experience with in-depth knowledge of Surface Combatants, Engineering, and design processes preferred.
  • Minimum 9 years of management / supervision / project management experience.
  • Demonstrated Leadership skills to foster a constructive and motivated teamwork environment.
  • Must be able to effectively manage priorities and meet schedule demands.
  • Broad knowledge of DDG 1000 Class ships in the areas of ship design, construction, repair and alteration.
  • Must be able to travel and gain access to government facilities on a frequent basis.
  • Willing to commit necessary hours to complete responsibilities on schedule (including working past normal shift schedule and some weekends when necessary).
  • Strong computer, oral, written, analytical and interpersonal skills, coupled with an ability to work independently and/or as a member of a team.
