Job Description

The Mechanical Engineering team supports the development and implementation of engineering change for Machinery and Mechanical systems for the LYS New Construction, and DDG X Programs.

 

Typical responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Performing functional mechanical engineering analysis for Engineering change for the DDG 51 ships.
  • Supporting update of associated databases and calculations, and configuration management of changes to Machinery and Mechanical systems.
  • Specifying new functional equipment, and reviewing design changes in support of Navy contracts, fiscal year upgrades (FY) and special studies for DDG 51 class ships.
  • Interface with, and support, Design, Engineering, Program Office, Systems Integration, Concept Design Development, Change Management, Estimating, Contracts, Materials, Planning, Manufacturing, Navy, and other customer organizations. Working with customers to resolve technical issues, recommend changes, and maintain appropriate communications.
  • Providing technical leadership for development of detail design products.
  • Follow engineering processes to ensure that quality, schedule, and cost performance goals are achieved on all programs.


 

 

 

Required/Preferred Education/Training

  • A Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or Marine Engineering from an ABET accredited university or college is required.
  • MS degree and/or PE license preferred.
  • WINDOWS and WINDOWS software operating skills required; CAD (CATIA or AutoCAD) skills are desirable.

Required/Preferred Experience

Engineer I: No minimum experience
Engineer II: Minimum 1 year experience in Mechanical, Marine, or applicable engineering/technical position
Engineer III: Minimum 3 years experience in Mechanical, Marine, or applicable engineering/technical position

  • Demonstrated knowledge of Mechanical Engineering principles of structural analysis, power systems, and heat transfer to aid in the design and development of Machinery and Mechanical systems.
  • Knowledge of mechanical systems, including gas turbines, various electro-mechanical transducers, pumps, valves, and auxiliary equipment.
  • Knowledge of testing and activation of fluid systems.
  • System modeling experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of electromechanical and hydraulic systems preferred.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Access database and VBA preferred.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills; adept at giving technical presentations at group meetings.
  • Positive attitude toward a team environment and demonstrated ability to function as a contributor to the engineering team.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and execute projects.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and assignments.
  • Demonstrated ability to be a technical lead.
  • Must be able to obtain a security clearance.
