To provide craft based technical and resource management across areas. Facilitate movement of resources to balance and optimize cost outcomes.
Responsibilities across assigned area includes:
• Provides and implements solutions to resource plan requirements through personnel moves, loans, transfers, hiring/layoffs for the Outside Machinist classification;
• Determine personnel moves (who) in accordance with staffing plans that optimize mechanic skills and qualifications to assignments;
• Identify and resolve skill inadequacies through training, assignments, hiring, etc;
• Provide technical guidance, training, and oversight to supervisors and mechanics;
• Be visible on the deckplates in all areas of the yard to provide support, communication, and greater trade identity;
• Provide leadership and single point authority in determining trade preferred practices. Ensure practices/processes are safe, efficient, and produce quality;
• Work with area based management to assign resources and resolve craft-oriented deckplate problems;
• Joint responsibility with Area Management for trade performance;
• Interface between all shifts and help establish priorities;
• Analyze and develop safety policies and procedures to ensure goals are achieved;
• Ensures best usage of trade facilities (shop, tooling);
• May periodically run a crew in addition to Assistant Superintendent duties.
Required:
- High School Diploma or GED
Preferred:
- Graduate BIW Apprentice or PDP
Required:
- At least 3 years of supervisory/management experience
- At least 5 years of extensive working knowledge in outside machinery processes with application in a manufacturing/shipbuilding environment.
- Basic computer skills.
- A solid foundation in labor contract administration.
- Excellent administrative skills, interpersonal skills, communication skills, and problem solving/decision making skills.
Preferred:
- Must demonstrate proficiency in blueprints and job estimating.
- Knowledge and experience with earned value management system.
