Job Description


Project Manager for complex capital investment projects at BIW facilities. Directs, facilitates, and oversees the development and implementation of new facility as well as major upgrades. Responsible to lead the development of project specifications, including applicable internal and external standards, project deliverables, forming a project team, leadership of design build bid process, management of cost and schedule, inclusion of production requirements, maintenance requirements, selection of equipment, determining construction sequencing, utility requirements, management of contractor upon project award, coordination of project subject matter experts, development and oversite of quality assurance and control, leadership of progress meetings, development of project reporting and communication to the organization. This position requires sound project management and construction management.

Project / Construction Management
- Leads project controls efforts for this project, including planning, estimating, cost control including forecasting and cash flow.
- Includes all project stakeholders, develops milestone timeline consistent with the scope and budgeted spend.
- Manages associated design consultants, construction contractors, and vendors related to assigned projects.
- Serves as project lead of assigned projects with support from engineers, construction manager, procurement lead, and other key project team members.
- Assumes a leadership role in working with staff to identify and mitigate construction impacts and operational issues, and insure compliance with all safety procedures and policies.
- Actively works with contractors on BIW's behalf in a construction manager role to facilitate execution of improvement projects.

Required/Preferred Education/Training

- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
- An understanding of the principles and practices of managing large integrated projects.
- Understand the basic principles of design and construction of capital projects.
- Competent with Microsoft applications including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Microsoft Project.

Required/Preferred Experience

Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with Major Industrial Site projects
- 10+ years PM experience, with 5 years of major ($30M+) project experience at an industrial site
- Project Management Professional Certification desired

- Problem Solving: Ability to address problems that are highly varied, complex, and often non-recurring, requiring various inputs, innovative, creative, and Lean diagnostic techniques to resolve issues.
- Independence of Action: Ability to set goals and determines how to accomplish defined results with some guidelines. Manager/Director provides broad guidance and overall direction.
- Written Communications: Ability to summarize and communicate moderately complex information in varied written formats to internal and external customers.
- Oral Communications: Ability to comprehend and communicate complex verbal information to internal and external customers.
