Job Description

This position will work as SharePoint Specialist on the IT Collaboration Services team, with a primary focus on delivery of SharePoint solutions.


The SharePoint Specialist will apply their knowledge of BIW processes and practices, and understanding of SharePoint capabilities, tools, and best practices, to align business goals with software capabilities. The Specialist will analyze and define requirements, develop and deploy SharePoint solutions of moderate complexity, and assist in the definition and deployment of more complex solutions.


A major focus will be on adoption and raising the organization’s understanding and proficiency of SharePoint. This will be done through direct engagement with customers, understanding business needs, creatively applying SharePoint tools to meet needs, and providing documentation and training, both formal and informal.

The Specialist will work under the guidance of the SharePoint architect, and within established governance policies and development practices. They will assist in further developing and revising policies and practices to reflect growing SharePoint deployments and use cases.


 The Specialist will be expected to:

  • Apply communication and problem-solving skills to actively assist the business on issues related to the design, development, deployment and operation of SharePoint solutions. 
  • Educate and train customers on guidelines or processes as needed and develop training content (webinars, documents, videos) and execute online and onsite training
  • Collaborate with business users to identify acceptance criteria and potential test scenarios and ensure testing efforts align with delivered functionality.
  • Work closely with developers, when applicable, to deliver a custom SharePoint business solution that meets the defined business requirements
  • Contribute to the vision and execution of Collaboration Services, including SharePoint and Office 365 adoption across the organization
  • Build, configure and maintain SharePoint/Team/Group sites and solutions
  • Provide production support for SharePoint, SharePoint Online and Office 365 as an escalation resource
  • Assist with the migration of the existing company’s intranet

Required/Preferred Education/Training

  • A Bachelors degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field is strongly preferred.

Required/Preferred Experience

  • 5+ years experience in coordination of cross-departmental BIW processes and workflows required.
  • A solid understanding of the BIW shipbuilding process, including engineering and manufacturing, is required.
  • LSS Green Belt training or similar process improvement methodologies strongly preferred.
  • Experience in coordinating and driving technological change and facilitating collaboration is preferred.
  • Experience in alignment of BIW business requirements with IT solutions, either formal or informal, is strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) is required.
  • Experience as a user or site manager in BIW’s SharePoint environment is preferred. (SharePoint admin training will be provided.)
  • Understanding of IT development processes, database or application development and maintenance, web development, HTML, and javascript are preferred.
  • Excellent consultative, oral and written communication, customer service, and presentation skills are required.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with individuals at all levels of the organization and at varying degrees of computer proficiency are required.
