Job Description

Primary tasks include developing detailed maintenance procedures for Hull, Mechanical & Electrical (HM&E) equipment installed onboard Navy ships, in accordance with Navy Planned Maintenance System (PMS) guidance. Typical responsibilities include the following tasks for all classes of BIW-built ships:

  • Perform Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) on HM&E equipment/systems. Achieve NAVSEA RCM Level 2 Certification which is required to author Navy PMS tasks.
  • Create detailed Maintenance Requirement Cards (MRCs) and Maintenance Index Pages (MIPs) for HM&E equipment/systems which will include specification of all materials, tools, parts and test equipment required to complete the assigned maintenance tasks.
  • Review engineering data, drawings, logistics data, fleet PMS/Maintenance data, ship configuration records, vendor furnished information, technical manuals, etc. to correctly document necessary preventive & corrective maintenance (PM and CM) tasks for HM&E equipment.
  • Route, track, and status PMS projects which require Navy review and approval via CDRL process. Track hull applicability for PMS projects and fleet-issues MIPs. Log potential work impacts and efforts versus HM&E PMS caused by engineering change proposals (ECPs), purchase spec changes, waterfront changes, retrofits, etc.
  • Review vendor-recommended Preservation and Preventive Maintenance (P&PM) tasks for HM&E equipment. Review, socialize, and/or develop necessary P&PM procedures. This requires active multi-faceted coordination (across trades, QA, buyers, production, engineering, logistics, etc.) as well as awareness of Ship Specification requirements and vendor P&PM recommendations.
  • Promote BIW process improvements efforts with respect to in-yard P&PM. Develop and submit CDRLs as necessary to support in-yard PM plans, PM processes and PM-logkeeping.
  • Provide maintenance technical expertise and coordination support to internal customers (BIW Trades, Functional Engineers, Buyers, Reliability, QA, Logistics, etc.) as well as external Navy customers (SUPSHIP, NAVSEA, NSLC, Ship Program Office/PMO, ISEA, etc.)
  • Ability and willingness to travel. Off-site maintenance support to any BIW shipbuilding program may be required, including Maintenance Demonstration or Validation efforts.

Required/Preferred Education/Training

Bachelors Degree in technical field preferred.

USN Organizational Level (O-level) maintenance training highly preferred.

Required/Preferred Experience

  • Ideal candidate will have NAVSEA RCM Level-1 and Level-2 Certifications.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required due to interfacing with various Engineers, Trades, QA, Vendors, Buyers, Ship's Force, etc.
  • Familiarity with in-shipyard Protection and Preventive Maintenance tasks and procedures for HME equipment highly desired. TipQA knowledge highly desired.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills required, plus ability to troubleshoot problems and develop/implement cost effective solutions.
