Job Description

Act as technical point of contact for Reliability, Availability, and/or Maintainability (RAM) requirements for assigned shipboard Hull Mechanical & Electrical (HM&) systems.

  • Model ship system designs, conduct analyses/calculations and perform research to determine key equipment reliability and maintainability attributes, such as MTBF, MTBCF, MTTR, Rm, etc.
  • Using ship design data, perform reliability assessments on shipboard equipment and/or systems.
  • Conduct Failure Modes, Effects & Criticality Analyses (FMECA) on new/novel or changing systems.
  • Perform calculations/simulations using software to support contract-specified RAM requirements.
  • Gather equipment specification data and industry/fleet failure data. Organize data for evaluation and assessment. Strong research skills and attention to detail is required.
  • Provide support to Failure Reporting Analysis & Corrective Action Systems (FRACAS) across ship programs. Complete technical reports; conduct root cause presentations at Failure Review Boards.
  • Participate in and/or lead Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) involving buyers, subcontractors, vendors, engineers, logisticians, Navy customers, etc.
  • Interface with Navy customer, Manufacturing Trades, Procurement, Quality Assurance, Fleet Service Engineering, and Design in resolving technical issues to include equipment/system failure investigations and root cause analyses/determinations.
  • Apply reliability techniques and software to evaluate system integrity and life cycle response, including supportability calculations (sparing/sensitivity studies).
  • Review engineering designs, drawings, calculations, as well as Ship and Purchase Specifications.
  • Recommend RAM-related equipment, system, and/or process improvements.

Required/Preferred Education/Training

• BS in Engineering required
• Reliability Engineering degree or reliabilty education/training preferred
• Certified Reliability Engineer (CRE) or Certified Maintenance Reliability Professional (CMRP) highly preferred  

Required/Preferred Experience

  • Minimum 3 years experience in relevant engineering/technical position
  • Knowledge of naval ship systems (hull, mechanical & electrical) preferred 
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills; adept at giving technical presentations
  • Positive attitude toward a teaming environment and demonstrated ability to function as a contributing engineering team member
  • Project management and coordination skills
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and assignments contributing engineering team member
  • Familiarity with RAM (Reliability, Availability, Maintainability) concepts preferred
  • Experience with RAM modeling software (RAPTOR, AvSim, Windchill, etc.) highly preferred
  • Ability to acquire Secret clearance if necessary
